Richard Dilley Tax Center Providing Access to Free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) 2026

Since 2005, Dane County UW Extension has been involved in the free tax preparation initiative known as the
Richard Dilley Tax Center. This collaborative effort is possible through a partnership with many incredible
volunteers, the UW Madison South Madison Partnership, and the Wisconsin Department of Revenue with funding
support from the Internal Revenue Services through the VITA program. Each year, the Richard Dilley Tax Center
provides FREE income tax preparation to thousands of low-income workers, families, seniors, English Language
Learners, and those with disabilities.

2026 Taxpayer Demographics- of those that completed survey

  • 82% of households had earnings under $70,000
  • 43% were over the age of 60
  • 22% identified as having a disability in the household
  • 6.5% identified as a veteran
  • 22.6 % identified as Black or African American
  • 25.8 % identified as Latino or Hispanic
  • 19% reported less than proficient English speaking skills
  • 20% reported less than proficient reading skills in English

Language Access Services were offered in: Spanish,
American Sign Language (ASL), French, Laotian, Hmong,
Vietnamese, Russian, Mandarin
