Nonprofit Resources

Dane County is home to close to 3,000 nonprofit organizations, yet there is no existing nonprofit hub for the region or the state. Nevertheless, there are numerous organizations that serve nonprofits and form a support network. 

  • UW-Madison Center for Nonprofit and Community Studies (CommNS): a hub for collaboration and exchange among faculty, students, and community partners. The Co-Create program provides student and faculty support for nonprofit research, evaluation, outreach, and strategy development.
  • Madison Community Foundation: works with nonprofits and funders to support organizations through philanthropy. Their website houses the Greater Madison Nonprofit Directory
  • Center for Community Stewardship: offers fiscal sponsorship to small organizations and projects that are just getting off the ground.
  • Community Shares of Wisconsin: helps nonprofits raise funds and awareness for the local social and environmental justice movement.
  • United Way of Dane County: works collaboratively with local nonprofits, businesses, community leaders, donors and volunteers to solve big-picture issues that no one person or organization can address alone.
  • Collaboration for Good: works to grow the capacity for social change work by combating economic inequity. Collaboration for Good is a capacity-building organization focused on economic acceleration in the Greater Madison Area.
  • Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Madison Chapter: advances ethical and effective philanthropy through education , professional development, networking, and outreach. 
  • UW-Madison Law & Entrepreneurship Clinic: provides free legal services to entrepreneurs, early stage companies, and nonprofit organizations
  • Numbers for Nonprofits: This support organizations provides cost-effective accounting solutions for local nonprofit organizations.
  • Nonprofit Lift: provides capacity-building resources to support nonprofits. While focused on the Greater Milwaukee Region, this website provides resources of benefit to Dane County organizations. A Consultant directory can help you find consultants to meet your needs.
  • Helen Bader Institute for Nonprofit Management: through research, education, service, and collaboration, the HBI strives to improve the leadership and effectiveness of nonprofit organizations.

Nonprofit Leadership Initiative:provides leadership development and training to nonprofit leaders in the Fox Valley. While leadership training programs serve the Fox Valley, the resources are relevant throughout the state of Wisconsin.
