Volunteering with Richard Dilley Tax Center

The Richard Dilley Tax Center provides FREE income tax preparation to thousands of low-income workers, seniors, and those with disabilities. This site located at 2238 S. Park St. Madison, WI 53713 is crucial to people without access to other services. The Richard Dilley Tax Center could not run without volunteers like you! Many come back every year and find this to be a very rewarding opportunity.

Volunteer positions include greeter, intake support, and preparer.

Tax Center Greeter

Are you friendly and enjoy meeting people? Do you have 3-4 hours a week to spare? Then be a greeter at one of the largest free tax centers in the country! As a tax center greeter, you will welcome people, direct them, initiate paperwork, and answer questions. Time commitment is one 3-4 hour shift per week from late January to mid-April. Tax preparation knowledge is not required. There will be training and orientation to prepare volunteers for the duties of this position.

Volunteer Tax Preparer

New preparer volunteers are asked to attend an orientation in December 4th followed by three full days of Tax Law 101 training in January. Dates for the 2024 tax season will be updated in Fall of 2024. Returning volunteers are asked to complete one day of training to address any changes to tax laws, this is offered on multiple dates to accommodate varied schedules. More information will be made available to prospective and returning volunteers by the volunteer coordinator. All trainings are held at the UW South Madison Partnership at 2238 S. Park St. Madison from 9-4. Option to bring your own lunch/food options nearby during lunch break.

All volunteers need to pass an ethics and boundaries test provided by the IRS. VITA sites, procedures, and protocols are approved by the IRS.
