Dane County 4-H Dog Project
Any youth that has completed one year of training with the Dane County 4-H Dog Project can participate in Agility Training.
Have you ever watched a dog run an agility course and thought, I would like to do that? If you have a dog that you think would enjoy it with you, join us for the start of the 4-H Dog Agility Project.
Six classes will take place spanning from January – April. This approach requires members to take initiative in training in order to achieve progress and to thrive.
The 4-H Dog Agility Project teaches members and their dogs how to work together in order to navigate an agility course, including jumps, tunnels and a table. Dogs must have the ability to work off leash with the member. All dogs must pass a vet and behavior check in order to make sure that they are behaviorally and structurally sound enough to compete. Please note that some class assessments will be made based off of prior knowledge from our trainers, meaning that if you have not been in the program before you will automatically be placed into a beginning class. If your dog has prior skills and you wish to be in a higher class, please send videos of you and your dog working together.
In order to accommodate the limited number of classes and teachers that we are able to provide, we will not be teaching contacts this year. If you wish to train these skills on your own, you may and we will have a skill check at the end of the classes.
A note that not every dog will be a good fit or get into the agility program this year.
Members will pass a behavioral and vet exam, before completing a skill check to determine classes. If you wish to participate but cannot attend the check in, please send someone else with your dog and take videos at home demonstrating skills so they can be shared at check in, as this check in is mandatory in order to attend training this year due to the health check required.
What to bring to the Agility Check In: Your dog with a copy of rabies and DHPP vaccination paperwork, as well as the form below, printed and filled out.
