Looking to expand your knowledge on how to better use your sewing machine? Have you ever made a buttonhole with your machine? Bring your sewing machine along and join us for the first county sewing project meeting.
This meeting is for youth with intermediate/advanced sewing skills.
*Attendees must bring their own sewing machine and be comfortable with setting it up and threading their own machine as well as having mastered sewing a straight seam.
We will spend time learning about the advanced stitches on our sewing machine as well as tackling the buttonhole. Participants will be able to choose a bag project to complete and demonstrate their mastery of a buttonhole.
This meeting is geared for youth in grades 3+. Youth in grades 3-8 must have an adult present. High School youth may attend without an adult.
What to bring:
- Sewing machine (including power cord, foot pedal, and extra foot attachments, especially a buttonhole foot if you have it)
- Sewing machine manual if you have it
- Thread and bobbin
- Scissors and pins
- Seam ripper
- 2 Fat quarters plus additional fabric to practice on.
- 1 yard of ribbon or drawstring cord
- Button sized 1/2″ to 1″ in diameter
- (Optional) Tape measure/seam guide, chopstick for turning corners, safety pin to feed in drawstring cord.
- Water bottle, and snack.
Want to share your love of sewing with new people? Confident in your sewing skills? Consider being a youth or adult leader at a future Beginner Sewing Project meeting! Date(s) TBD.
