These meetings are for anyone who is already very comfortable and confident with crocheting single crochet (or other more advanced stitches).

We will be building off the December meeting by learning how to create Granny squares. Each meeting we will learn how to do a new square. You do not need to have attended the December meeting, but if you did, you already know how to do the Basic Granny Square! You can also attend all of the meetings or just one; how many and which ones you attend are up to you and your schedule. However, It is expected that you will create more squares in between meetings. 

Why will you need to create squares in between meetings? So that you will have enough squares with which to create a larger, finished project. Maybe a hat, top, purse or slippers! Maybe Google search for “projects using granny squares” for inspiration. This project can be anything that you would like to make but that might also be able to be entered in the fair either under a Crochet lot and/or as part of the Crochet Revue. (Items entered for the Revue can also be entered in the Crochet project. We are encouraging everyone to consider being part of the Crochet Revue at the fair.) Read about the Revue here in the 2025 Dane County Fair Premium Book, page 70-71! You need just one item. Wouldn’t it be cool if that item was assembled with granny squares? Our final meeting day (June 22) will be all about stitching the squares together to create the project of your fair dreams!

Bring worsted weight yarn of your choosing and a size G, H or I crochet hook. If desired, bring 3-4 colors of yarn to add variety to your square. Some yarn and crochet hooks will be available for purchase or to borrow. We will share granny square patterns after each meeting to allow for participant choice. 

Students in grades 3-5 should attend with an adult.
