Our Dane County Internship Program aims to provide youth with a glimpse into essential fields/careers within local government and also equip them with the knowledge, skills, and networks needed to excel in these professional fields. We are excited to offer youth in Dane County the opportunity to experience working for a county department!

2025 Career Pathways Application

We are excited to share that four Dane County departments have internship positions opened for summer 2025. Those departments include: The Dane County Executive Office, Library Services, Henry Vilas Zoo, and Land and Water Resources Department. 

Tips before applying: 

Optionally, you can attend a 30-minute zoom session with the Dane County Career Pathways Coordinator, Jasmine, to learn more about the positions, internship details, and application process.

Please look through the position descriptions before applying to figure out which position may fit your experience and interest.

Positions

Please click on “Position Description” to learn more about the specific qualifications needed and responsibilities expected for each unique position. Each position has it’s own duties and specifications and it is important that you are familiar with the position before you apply. Dane County Executive Office Intern

Supports policy research and local government initiatives through community engagement, public outreach, and event coordination. Assists with drafting reports, attending meetings, managing communications, and providing administrative support.

Mobile Library Services Craft Intern

Leads and assists with craft activities for children and families at mobile library service stops across Dane County, ensuring an engaging and organized experience. Manages materials, tracks participation, and communicates about the program while serving as a positive role model for participants.

Zoo Train and Carousel Attendant

Operates the carousel and train, ensuring the safe boarding, riding, and off-boarding of passengers while conducting safety checks and equipment inspections. Provides excellent customer service by assisting guests, resolving issues, and maintaining a clean and welcoming environment.

Parks Education Program Assistant. (Must be 16-17 years old to apply)

Supports environmental and outdoor education programs for the Junior Naturalist Summer Camp, leading activities like fishing, biking, paddling, and hiking for youth of various ages. Serves as a positive role model while facilitating games, assisting with outreach efforts, and helping with event setup and preparation.

Info Sessions

Youth and parents/guardians can register for a 30 minute virtual session (via Zoom).

Youth must register for the date(s) they want to join. If these days and times don’t work for you, please reach out to Jasmine at carbajal.jasmine@danecounty.gov to schedule a session.
