We Have a New VITA Scheduler!

María Romero Hortas joins us as the new Scheduler for the Volunteer Tax Assistance (VITA) Site, bringing with her a deep commitment to service and a wealth of administrative experience. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, affectionately known as La Isla del Encanto, María relocated to Madison 18 months ago in search of a new chapter and new opportunities to serve her community.

María has spent more than two decades supporting public-facing offices with care, precision, and exceptional customer service. She served for 11 years as an Administrative Assistant in the Purchasing Department of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives and for 13 years as an Office Clerk with the Puerto Rico Vital Records Registry. Most recently, in her role as Hispanic Program Coordinator Assistant with NewBridge Madison, María discovered a meaningful passion for working with older adults and helping individuals navigate complex systems with confidence and dignity.

Outside of work, María enjoys gardening, solving puzzles, and expressing her creativity in the kitchen by cooking traditional Comida Puertorriqueña. We are thrilled to welcome María to Extension and grateful for the experience, warmth, and dedication she brings to our team.
