As Jackie Gehin, FoodWIse Administrator, prepares to retire from UW Extension Dane County, we reflect with deep appreciation on the impact of nearly 30 years of service and dedication. Throughout her time with Extension, Jackie worked alongside countless agencies, schools, and community partners to bring education and resources to individuals and families across Dane County. Her work has embodied the heart of our mission, connecting people, knowledge, and community to create lasting change.
Colleagues describe Jackie as a compassionate leader and collaborator who approached every project with creativity, integrity, and care. She has been a mentor and inspiration to many, helping to strengthen programs that uplift and empower residents. The difference her work has made is evident in the communities that have benefited from increased knowledge, connection, and opportunity.
While recent federal budget changes have brought the FoodWIse program to a close, Jackie’s legacy lives on in the people and partnerships shaped by her leadership. The lessons of healthy living, self-sufficiency, and care for one another will continue to grow, carried forward by the dedicated colleagues and community members they have inspired.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Jackie for her years of service, collaboration, and commitment to the values of Extension. We wish her joy, rest, and fulfillment in retirement and celebrate the lasting mark she leaves on Dane County and beyond.
