Welcome Our New Bilingual Nutrition Educator

We are delighted to welcome Fernanda (Fernie) Magaña as the new Bilingual Nutrition Educator for Dane County. Fernie joined UW–Madison Division of Extension in 2023, serving Milwaukee County before joining the Dane County team in 2025.

A native of Mexico City, Fernie has lived in the United States for more than 30 years and brings a deep understanding of diverse communities and cultures to her work. Before joining UW–Madison Extension, she worked as a federal tax preparer in El Paso, Texas, where she honed her skills in communication, education, and community engagement.

In her role as Bilingual Nutrition Educator, Fernie is passionate about helping individuals and families make healthy food choices that align with their unique lifestyles, cultures, and budgets. She values connecting with people of all ages and backgrounds, empowering them to create lasting, realistic nutrition habits.

Outside of work, Fernie enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, and sharing her love of cooking. Her enthusiasm for food, learning, and community shines through in all she does.

We are excited to welcome Fernie to the Dane County FoodWIse team and look forward to the positive impact she will continue to make in our community.
