If you want to learn about proper tree and shrub pruning, this hands-on workshop will begin with an indoor PowerPoint program on proper pruning techniques and afterwards, the class will move outside into the Dane County Extension Teaching Garden for a demonstration/participatory pruning session on shrubs and trees in the Garden. The PowerPoint lecture will be in-person as well as available on Zoom. Space is limited to 15 participants. Wear appropriate clothing and bring pruning shears and/or loppers if possible. Note that if you wish to attend the lecture via Zoom, the registration cost is the same and you would only be able to participate in the lecture portion of the class. You will receive a copy of the video and an electronic copy of the lecture slides and a pruning chart whether you attend in-person or online.

You will be learning when and how to prune trees and shrubs of different species, how to make proper cuts, and different pruning techniques to use on different species of shrubs. We will cover deciduous species but also touch on pruning evergreens. Please note this class is for shade and ornamental trees and shrubs (not fruit trees). The class will be held at the Dane County Extension Office, 5201 Fen Oak Drive on Madison’s east side. You will be emailed the evening before if the class is canceled due to weather conditions.
