Dane County Extension would like to welcome Alissa Grenawalt as their Ag in the Classroom Educational Program Coordinator. Alissa hales from Beloit, WI, where she grew up on her family’s beef and crop farm in the southwest corner of Rock County and earned her BS and MS degrees in Animal Science and Agriculture Industries from UW Platteville.
Call it a ‘herd mentality’ of sorts, but Grenawalt is happiest when collaborating with others during her 18 years serving in various roles with UW-Extension. “I have been very fortunate both personally and professionally to work with and learn from many amazing people who share my passion and love for agriculture.”
Grenawalt comes to the position with a strong background in Extension education, serving as the 4-H Youth Development Educator in Green County for 12 years and most recently serving as an Outreach Specialist with the UW-Madison Department of Animal Sciences Extension Group for the past 5 before joining the Dane County office. Grenawalt has also been involved with her local Farm Bureau during the past 13 years serving as the Ag in the Classroom and Promotion and Education Chair and helped plan a number of community outreach programs to help educate others about agriculture.
The purpose of Ag in the Classroom Coordinator position is to increase teachers and K-12 students understanding of how their food is produced, increase awareness of the role of agriculture in the economy and society, increase safety of youth on the farm, and introduce youth to career opportunities in agriculture.
Grenawalt will teach Ag in the Classroom educational programs in Dane County schools and coordinate farm safety educational events and will work closely with Dane County schools, Extension educators and other Ag related organizations to build partnerships, improve on farm safety and promote agriculture awareness and understanding in Dane County.
This position is a new partnership between Dane County Extension and Dane County Farm Bureau. We thank Dane County Farm Bureau for their support of this new venture!
You can contact Grenawalt at the Dane County Extension office at 608-224-3728 or e-mail her at Grenawalt.Alissa@countyofdane.com
